Parts of contemporary society are based
on anonymity. Like in Plato’s cave allegory
we live in a virtual cave and reality is like
a shadow on a wall made of numbers, database
entries, and statistics. We surf the
web in anonymity using nicknames, spend
our days in chat rooms or social networks
making friends from the other side of the
world, but we hardly know the names of our
neighbors. It is like everyone sitting in their
own cave seeing reality as shadows on the
wall.
